Transportation Resources in Weston
Springwell’s Information & Consultation Department is available to discuss resources for older adults, family caregivers or persons with disabilities. Call Springwell at (617) 926-4100, Monday through Friday, between 9am and 5pm or e-mail inforef@springwell.com.
MEDICAL RIDES
These choices are available for medical appointments. Some programs may have limited availability, so reserve early.
WESTON COUNCIL ON AGING: The FISH program uses volunteer drivers to provide rides to medical appointments in the Greater Boston area. Call 781-786-6280 five days in advance. The rider pays tolls and parking. Riders must have a signed waiver on file with the COA.
THE RIDE: This MBTA service is for persons with disabilities and seniors who are unable to independently use public transportation. The program requires a face-to-face interview which can be scheduled by calling 617-337-2727. Free transportation to the interview will be provided by the RIDE. Once approved, call 1-877-765-7433 to schedule a ride. Cost: $3.15 or $5.25 each way, depending on length of trip and advance booking.
SENIOR MEDICAL ESCORT PROGRAM: This Springwell program matches seniors age 60 or older with volunteers to drive and/or accompany them in Boston and its western suburbs. To be eligible, an individual needs to be unable to get to medical appointments independently, and able to get in and out of the car with minimal assistance. The individual is responsible for tolls and parking fees. The requested donation is $4.00 each way. Call Springwell at 617-926-4100 at least two or more weeks before the appointment to make your request.
SHOPPING
WESTON COUNCIL ON AGING: The Friendship Bus provides door-to-door grocery and pharmacy transportation. Check the Weston COA calendar for specific destinations and call the Weston COA to make a reservation at 781-786-6280.
NON-MEDICAL RIDES
These rides are for broader or more flexible purposes, but may require payment.
WESTON COUNCIL ON AGING: The Weston Council on Aging (COA) is located in the Community Center at 20 Alphabet Lane, Weston, MA 02493 and is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm. The taxi discount coupon program is available to seniors who have transportation needs in Weston and neighboring towns. Taxis are available seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Taxi discount coupons are purchased at the Weston COA. Reserve rides with Veterans Taxi by calling 781-899-6600.
