Transportation Resources in Wellesley

MEDICAL RIDES

These choices are available for medical appointments. Some programs may have limited availability, so reserve early.

COUNCIL ON AGING: The COA provide a bus service to Wellesley elders 60 and older anywhere in the town of Wellesley and select destinations outside of Wellesley including BID Needham, Metrowest Medical Center, Newton Wellesley Hospital, and the Woodland T Stop. The service runs weekdays (except holidays) between 9am and 2:30pm. Call 781-235-3046 to request a ride at least 3 business days in advance. Tickets are $1.00 each way and can be purchased via mail or at the COA.

THE RIDE: This MBTA service is for persons with disabilities and seniors who are unable to independently use public transportation. The program requires a face-to-face interview which can be scheduled by calling 617-337-2727. Free transportation to the interview will be provided by the RIDE. Once approved call 1-877-765-7433 to schedule a ride. Cost: $3.15 or $5.25 each way, depending on length of trip and advance booking.

SENIOR MEDICAL ESCORT PROGRAM: This Springwell program matches seniors age 60 or older with volunteers to drive and/or accompany them to medical appointments in Boston and its western suburbs. To be eligible, an individual needs to be unable to get to medical appointments independently, and able to get in and out of the car with minimal assistance. The individual is responsible for tolls and parking fees. The requested donation is $4.00 each way. Call Springwell at 617-926-4100 at least two or more weeks before the appointment to make your request.

SHOPPING

COUNCIL ON AGING: The COA provides a bus for Wellesley elders for food shopping every Modday to Roch Bros or Whole Foods at no cost. Call 781-235-3046 for more details and to request a ride.

NON-MEDICAL RIDES

These rides are for broader or more flexible purposes, but may require payment.

THE RIDE: This MBTA service is for persons with disabilities and seniors who are unable to independently use public transportation. Volunteers Drivers Program: The COA has volunteer drivers to help with rides in Wellesley and neighboring towns. Call 781-235-3046 or email Drive@wellesleyma.gov to request rides, at least 3 business days in advance. No cost for rides, passengers pay all tolls and parking costs.

RIDES IN SIGHT: Individuals of any age who have limited vision are asked to call Rides In Sight at 855-607-4337 to discuss the details of this program.

SPECIAL TRIPS

COUNCIL ON AGING: On the last Thursday of the month, the COA provides transportation to destinations including Target, Shopper's World, Walmart, the Christmas Tree Shop, and the Natick Mall. Call 781-235-3046 for more details and to request a ride at least 3 business days in advance. Tickets are $1.00 each way and can be purchased via mail or at the COA.
