Transportation Resources in Watertown

Springwell’s Information & Consultation Department is available to discuss resources for older adults, family caregivers or persons with disabilities. Call Springwell at (617) 926-4100, Monday through Friday, between 9am and 5pm or e-mail inforef@springwell.com.

MEDICAL RIDES

These choices are available for medical appointments. Some programs may have limited availability, so reserve early.

THE RIDE: This MBTA service is for persons with disabilities and seniors who are unable to independently use public transportation. The program requires a face-to-face interview, which can be scheduled by calling 617-337-2727. Free transportation to the interview will be provided by the RIDE. Once approved, call 1-877-765-7433 to schedule a ride. Cost: $3.150 or $5.25 each way, depending on length of trip and advance booking.

SENIOR MEDICAL ESCORT PROGRAM: This Springwell program matches seniors age 60 or older with volunteers to drive and/or accompany them to medical appointments in Boston and its western suburbs. To be eligible, an individual needs to be unable to get to medical appointments independently, and able to get in and out of the car with minimal assistance. The individual is responsible for tolls and parking fees. The requested donation is $4.00 each way. Call Springwell at 617-926-4100 at least two or more weeks before the appointment to make your request.

SHOPPING

COUNCIL ON AGING: The Shopping Bus goes to the Watertown Street Stop and Shop on Tuesdays and to the Pleasant Street Stop and Shop on Fridays. Call 617-972-6490 to reserve a space. The bus is on a fixed route system with some accommodations made. The requested donation is 25 cents each way.

NON-MEDICAL RIDES

These rides are for broader or more flexible purposes, but may require payment.

THE RIDE: This MBTA service is for persons with disabilities and seniors who are unable to independently use public transportation. The program requires a face-to-face interview which can be scheduled by calling 617-337-2727. Free transportation to the interview will be provided by the RIDE. RIDES IN SITE:Individuals of any age who have limited vision are asked to call Rides in Sight at 855-607-4337 to discuss the details of this program.

SPECIAL TRIPS

COUNCIL ON AGING: The Council on Aging (COA) is located at 31 Marshall Street in Watertown and is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm. The COA provides Emergency and Supplemental transportation services to Watertown seniors. This program is designed to provide readily accessible transportation assistance for seniors in need of last minute or emergency transportation to locations within the Watertown community. Rides are arranged through the COA. Call 617-972-6490 for more information.
