Transportation Resources in Waltham

Springwell’s Information & Consultation Department is available to discuss resources for older adults, family caregivers or persons with disabilities. Call Springwell at (617) 926-4100, Monday through Friday, between 9am and 5pm or e-mail inforef@springwell.com.

MEDICAL RIDES

These choices are available for medical appointments. Volunteer programs may have limited availability, so reserve early.

COUNCIL ON AGING: The Medical Van provides free curb to curb service for medical appointments within Waltham from 8:30am to 3pm Monday through Friday. Call 781-899-7228 at least two business-days in advance. Wheelchair service is available. There is no fee for the service, voluntary donations are welcomed. Transportation for persons with disabilities under 60 is subject to availability.

THE RIDE: This MBTA service is for persons with disabilities and seniors who are unable to independently use public transportation. The program requires a face-to-face interview. which can be scheduled by calling 617-337-2727. Free transportation to the interview will be provided by the RIDE. Once approved, call 1-877-765-7433 to schedule a ride. Cost: $3.15 or $5.25 each way, depending on length of trip and advance booking.

SENIOR MEDICAL ESCORT PROGRAM: This Springwell program matches seniors age 60 or older with volunteers to drive and/or accompany them to medical appointments in Boston and its western suburbs. To be eligible, an individual needs to be unable to get to medical appointments independently, and able to get in and out of the car with minimal assistance. The individual is responsible for tolls and parking fees. The requested donation is $4.00 each way. Call Springwell at 617-926-4100 at least two or more weeks before the appointment to make your request.

SHOPPING

COUNCIL ON AGING: The Shopping Bus runs on Wednesdays and Thursdays, to Market Basket Call the transportation coordinator at 781-314-3499 to reserve a space. There is no fee for the service, voluntary donations are welcomed.

NON-MEDICAL RIDES

These rides are for broader or more flexible purposes, but may require payment.

THE RIDE: This MBTA service is for persons with disabilities and seniors who are unable to independently use public transportation. COUNCIL ON AGING: The Council on Aging (COA) is located at 488 Main Street in Waltham and is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm. Taxi vouchers are available to Waltham residents over 60 years old. Proof of age is required and the initial purchase must be made in person at the COA. The cost is $5 for a book of ten $1 vouchers. MassHealth subscribers receive a greater discount.

RIDES IN SIGHT:Individuals of any age who have limited vision are asked to call Rides in Sight at 855-607-4337 to discuss the details of this program.

SPECIAL TRIPS

COUNCIL ON AGING: The COA provides a Shuttle Van for specific events that will be advertised. For these events a continuous shuttle will pick people up a the Sacred Heart Church parking lot 30 minutes before the event and return them 30 minutes after the event.
