Transportation Resources in Needham

MEDICAL RIDES

These choices are available for medical appointments. Some programs may have limited availability, so reserve early.

NEEDHAM COMMUNITY COUNCIL: The Needham Community Council provides medical transportation to Needham residents age 60 and older. A volunteer driver provides transportation to medical appointments within the town of Needham and neighboring towns including to Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Dedham Medical. Call 781-444-2415 to arrange the ride at least 3 days in advance. Donations accepted.

THE RIDE: This MBTA service is for persons with disabilities and seniors who are unable to independently use general public transportation. The program requires a face-to-face interview which can be scheduled by calling 617-337-2727. Free transportation to the interview will be provided by the RIDE. Once approved, call 1-877-765-7433 to schedule a ride. Cost: $3.15 or $5.25 each way, depending on length of trip and advance booking.

SENIOR MEDICAL ESCORT PROGRAM: This Springwell program matches seniors age 60 or older with volunteers to drive and/or accompany them to medical appointments in Boston and its western suburbs. To be eligible, an individual needs to be unable to get to medical appointments independently, and able to get in and out of the car with minimal assistance. The individual is responsible for tolls and parking fees. The requested donation is $4.00 each way. Call Springwell at 617-926-4100 at least two or more weeks before the appointment to make your request.

SHOPPING

COUNCIL ON AGING: The Needham COA is located at the Center at the Heights, 300 Hillside Ave in Needham. The COA provides a van for food shopping on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Call 781-455-7555 to reserve your ride.

NON-MEDICAL RIDES

These rides are for broader or more flexible purposes, but may require payment.

RIDES IN SIGHT:Individuals of any age who have limited vision are asked to call Rides in Sight at 855-607-4337 to discuss details of the program.

SPECIAL TRIPS

COUNCIL ON AGING: The COA provides Needham elders with handicapped-accessible transportation Monday through Friday to COA activities and the Community Dining Site located at The Center at the Heights. Call 781-455-7555 for more information and to reserve your ride.

NEIGHBORHOOD BRIGADE: During an illness or crisis, volunteers can provide things such as meals, rides, yard work, and homework help. No set times or costs. Contact 781-449-1507 for more information.
