Transportation Resources in Belmont

Medical Rides

These options are available for medical appointments. Some programs may have limited availability, so reserve early.

COUNCIL ON AGING: The Medical Van provides free curb to curb service for medical appointments in Belmont and neighboring towns from 8:30 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday. Call 617-993-2970 to reserve your ride. There is a suggested donation of $2.00 each way.

THE RIDE: This MBTA service is for persons with disabilities and seniors who are unable to independently use public transportation. The program requires a face-to-face interview which can be scheduled by calling 617-337-2727. Free transportation to the interview will be provided by the RIDE. Once approved, call 1-877-765-7433 to schedule a ride. Cost: $3.15 or $5.25 each way, depending on length of trip and advance booking.

SENIOR MEDICAL ESCORT PROGRAM: This Springwell program matches seniors age 60 or older with volunteers to drive and/or accompany them to medical appointments in Boston and its western suburbs. To be eligible, an individual needs to be unable to get to medical appointments independently, and be able to get in and out of the car with minimal assistance. The individual is responsible for tolls and parking fees. The requested donation is $4.00 each way. Call Springwell at 617-926-4100 at least two or more weeks before the appointment to make your request. If no match is possible, the senior will be notified one week before the appointment to make your request.

SHOPPING

COUNCIL ON AGING: The Belder Bus goes to Shaw’s Grocery Store on Tuesday and Friday mornings, and to Market Basket in Burlington on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. Call 617-993-2980 to reserve your ride. There is a suggested donation of $4.00 each way.

NON-MEDICAL RIDES

These rides are for broader or more flexible purposes, but may require payment.

COUNCIL ON AGING: The Council on Aging (COA) is located at 266 Beech Street in Belmont and is open Monday through Friday. The Belder Bus provides non-medical transportation within Belmont. Call 617-993-2970 for more information and to reserve your ride. It is best to call early, to allow for scheduling. There is a suggested donation of $4.00 each way.
