Medical Escorts

Springwell matches frail seniors with a volunteer who will drive and/or accompany them to medical appointments in Boston and the western suburbs between 9:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. weekdays.

In order TO BE ELIGIBLE for the program, individuals must be:

60 years of age or older
Residents of Belmont, Brookline, Needham, Newton, Waltham, Watertown, Wellesley, or Weston
Unable to get to medical appointments independently
Able to get in and out of the car with minimal assistance from a volunteer
Willing to pay for any tolls or parking fees

SENIOR MEDICAL ESCORTS CAN:

Provide transportation to and from medical appointments.
Give minimal assistance getting into a car and to the medical facility.
Serve as an escort on regional transportation such as The Ride, or Busy Bee.
Offer companionship while waiting for a medical appointment.

ABOUT OUR VOLUNTEERS The Springwell Medical Escort Volunteers are carefully screened and trained.

Volunteers consist of professionals who volunteer time, retirees who want to give back to their communities, students, and newcomers who want to make a difference.

TO ARRANGE AN ESCORTED RIDE:

Call Springwell at (617) 926-4100 AT LEAST ONE WEEK before the appointment.
Please be ready to give details about the appointment including the day, time, the address of the destination, and parking information.
A volunteer will be assigned as soon as possible.

DONATION POLICY

A donation of $4.00 each way is requested from seniors participating in the program. All donations are strictly confidential. Participants will receive a monthly statement with a suggested donation. Volunteers DO NOT ACCEPT PAYMENT OR TIPS.
